About Me

Hi, I'm Ellie Dougherty. I was raised making boxcakes and Christmas cookies with my mom, and we never made anything for anyone but ourselves. As I got older my mom would let me help her make more and more detailed cakes and cupcakes for me and my sisters' birthdays and other parties. I even started to make some things on my own using what I learned from YouTubers like Yolanda Gampp, Elise Strachan, and Jenn Johns. Eventually, I hit a turning point in 2019 when my mom's coworker asked my mom and me to make her wedding cake. That cake and cupcakes became my first post on Instagram when I created my Ellie Cakery account. From then I started viewing baking as less of a hobby and more as a passionate business venture. I started practicing and taking business courses to learn how to start my business. And that's how Ellie Cakery was born. To this day I spend my free time practicing decorating and sharing those treats with family, friends, coworkers, and schoolmates. This networking has given me many opportunities to make birthday and wedding desserts on my own. My dream is to one day have my own storefront, but until then, I'm happy to have a platform at all. I would not have gotten to this step without my family, clients, and teachers that helped me get here.
